The "Protect Trans Kids Eagle"© design was born in the Key and Quoin Print Shop at the Frederick Book Arts Center. In our collection is a cut of the eagle design that dates back to the 1860s, made by L. Johnson & Co., a print shop in Philadelphia. The image was used by the Union to recruit soldiers for the American Civil War. This particular cut has space for someone to set type into the banner that is held in the Eagle's mouth; the phrases "E Pluribus Unum" and "Protect Trans Kids" were hand set into the banner and originally printed on paper on one of our Vandercook Letterpresses by artist Corrine Wilson.
